Anyone with Email and Smail addresses for gaming companies
pleeze email them all to me. Once I recieve a fair number of addresses and
such I will cross-post a message containing all of the addresses and you,
the GUS user will email and write a letter to each of these comapnies. I
don't know about you, but if at least 500 people do it then at least it
will wake the companies up to the presence of the almighty GUS.
And if you want to whine about "I have better things to do than waste my
precious $4.00 cab-fare" Well you might as well staple your GUS to your
wall for decorational purposes 'cause if GUS dies then you lost a $150
investment. So search for those addresses and wait for me to post again.
ciao my fellow GUSers,
May the force of GUS be with you!
Adam

I don't know about notes being missed completely, but notes being
truncated too soon can be due to your 'Number of active voices'
setting. If all the voices are in use when the time comes to play
a note, then all the Windows driver can do is cut one of the old
notes off - presumably it chooses the 'oldest' note. So more active
voices means that you can play more notes at once, but at the
expense of lesser quality (quite noticeable on some patches,
insignificant on others) because the GUS cannot sample the patches
at 44kHz with more than 14 active voices.

If I remember, 2.06L (Lite?) was a version of 2.06 made available for
ftp. It differed from 2.06 by not having Recording Session and Power
Chords, since these could not be made available in this way. I don't
know what 2.06a had (maybe the missing marcato/tremstr or whatever patch
was included, and maybe the Power Chords icons were got the right way
round). I think you should stick with 2.06a.

3 days! Give it some time! <-- probably unfair remark since I haven't
really tried to play games with mine.

How many voices have you got your windows driver set to? It defaults
to 22, so if your .mid uses up more, the driver is probably
cutting off the oldest notes so it can start new ones.
What does playmidi do, anyone? Does it make a guess as to
how many voices to set the gus to?

In the past few digests they have been some complaints about
the gus not being supported quickly enough. Well I bought
an original SB when they first came out and had to
wait at least 2-2.5 years before games supported the SB even
then it was still not trully supported ( full digitized output
with sound ). What I am trying to say is that unfortunately
it take time for the word "GUS" to spread around and I think
gravis are doing a great job to decrease this time. Until
most people know what the Gravis Ultrasound is I don't think
there is going much effort to support it. Everone knows
what a sound blaster is - but a GUS? When you read a magazine
looking for a sound card you normally look for the best and
see what it has to offer ( then only the price ). I have
not seen one good GUS review !

I wrote two small utils which enable and disable
the Ultrasound's line in, and made a quick hack of
the ultrinit.sys file which also enables the line in
feature. Then I thought that somebody else might need
these and uploaded them to epas, into directory
/pub/pc/ultrasound/submit, as line.zip.

Message-ID: <199310081548.AA03555@q>
Hello,
I downloaded a patch that supposedly lets Master Of Orion use the GUS
through the AIL driver. I ran the patch, loaded ultramid -c, ran the
install program and selected one of the Roland cards. But when I run
the game, the screen just goes black, the disk stops spinning, and
that's it.
I also had previously put in Microprose's MOO bugfix patch. Could
that have afftected it?
Has anyone else got the GUS patch to work? Did I miss something?
Thanks,
-Bryon

Just recieved a bit more from Origin.
Q. Will you answer our question, will we see GUS support from you?
A. I just realised that I didn't answer this letter. Nothing is definate at
this time. The GUS market is not as huge as people think and the drivers
provided are very hard to operate with our code. This certainly isn't as
easy as you may think. Thank you for the letters of encouragement and I
hope to read more from you soon.
Best wishes,
Wayne
Can someone out there at Gravis provide Origin with hard data as to how
many GUS owners there actually are? It would help if everyone who gets
this digest mailed Origin and said Hi! I've got a GUS - SUPPORT IT!

Wow! I wasn't sure if it was something else on my system, and I DIDNT
EVEN THINK to wonder of it was my GUS, but Yes
MICROSOFT ARCADE (all of the games) lock my up my machine
Nothing else seems to lock it up, but just in case. I have:
386/40, 256k cache
8 megs of memory
ATI VGA Wonder 512+
or Diamond Speedstar Pro
or Vortex by Boca
250 meg hard disk
PC Tools for Windows desktop
I tried everything, but turning off sound. Maybe I will try starting
windows in standard mode, not 386...

A. The GUS drivers never worked...Forte seemed unwilling or unable to help us.
(can anybody respond to this - Gravis? Forte?)

A. There just doesn't seem to be alot of incentive besides a few very vocal GUS owners.

I informed them that the GUS had recently been rated very highly by three
mags here in the UK, they just threw back at me the review in CGW. They seem
to think the GUS is lacking compared to other cards. Can anyone give them
a good working over on this?

Well I tried, but it doesn't look too good does it? What do the rst of you
think? Don't forget to mail Origin as well to tell them - osi@aol.com.
